Valery Gergiev to Conduct Richard Wagner’s Parsifal at the Wiener Staatsoper

Valery Gergiev will conduct performances of Richard Wagner’s stage consecration festival drama Parsifal staged by Alvis Hermanis at the Wiener Staatsoper on 18 April, 21 April, and 24 April. Lead roles will be performed by such world opera stars as Simon O'Neill (Parsifal), Matthias Goerne (Amfortas), René Pape (Gurnemanz), Elena Zhidkova (Kundry), and Boaz Daniel (Klingsor).

The premiere of Alvis Hermanis’ production took place at the Wiener Staatsoper in 2017. Costume design by Kristīne Jurjāne, light design by Gleb Filshtinsky, video installation by Ineta Sipunova.

Valery Gergiev and the Orchester Der Wiener Staatsoper have collaborated for many years. Previously maestro Gergiev has performed with the ensemble during tours. He also conducted the orchestra for a performance of Parsifal at the Salzburg Festival several years ago.

Valery Gergiev will once again conduct the Orchester Der Wiener Staatsoper in the next theatre season of 2019/2020. This time he will conduct a series of performances of Richard Wagner’s Lohengrin staged by Andreas Homoki.
