Valery Gergiev's European tour

From 14 to 20 December Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker will undertake their final concert series of 2019, the conductor also to appear with the Orchestre de Paris and the Orchestra of the Russo-German Academy of Music.

Three concerts with the Munich ensemble will be held at the Gasteig Philharmonie from 14 to 16 December. The programme includes Mahler's Fifth Symphony and van Beethoven's Violin Concerto, the solo to be performed by Daniel Lozakovich. This young violinist, who first made a name for himself at an early age, is today actively continuing to develop his career. He tours a great deal, takes part in international festivals and is an exclusive artist for Deutsche Grammophon as well as being the youngest musician ever to release an album on the label. 16 December will see the final concert in the series at the Gasteig Philharmonie which will also be broadcast live on medici.tv. Daniel Lozakovich will again appear with the Munich ensemble and Valery Gergiev at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on 17 December. Along with van Beethoven's Violin Concerto the programme will feature Bruckner's Seventh Symphony, which in this anniversary year of the composer is being performed particularly frequently by German musicians.

On 15 December, in addition to a matinee concert in Munich, Valery Gergiev will also be conducting the Orchestra of the Russo-German Academy of Music at the Konzerthaus Berlin. Together with Denis Matsuev, the ensemble will continue to perform piano works by Rachmaninoff. One year ago, there was a performance of the composer's Second Concerto at the venue, and this occasion will feature the Third. The programme will also include the music for Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird.

Valery Gergiev's European tour will conclude with two concerts together with the Orchestre de Paris. On 19 and 20 December at the Philharmonie de Paris there will be performances of works of the early 20th century, the premieres of which took place in the French capital: the music for Stravinsky's ballet The Firebird and Debussy's Le Martyre de Saint Sébastien. The vocals will be performed by French sopranos Sandrine Piau and Julie Fuchs. Also appearing at the concert will be the Chorus of the Orchestre de Paris.

Valery Gergiev will then depart for St Petersburg and on 21 December will conduct the Mariinsky Orchestra at the opening of the International Piano Festival.
