Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker to run a series of concerts in Germany and the USA

In October Valery Gergiev will be running several concert series with the Münchner Philharmoniker. From 16 to 19 October the orchestra will be appearing at its home venue in Munich, while from 25 to 27 October it will be in the USA, performing at Carnegie Hall in New York and at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center.

On 16 and 17 October at the Gasteig, the Münchner Philharmoniker will be performing with the acclaimed violinist Leonidas Kavakos, who has actively collaborated with the orchestra for many years. On both evenings he will be performing the solo in Johannes Brahms’ Violin Concerto. On 16 October the programme will also include Anton Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony, which in September 2019 was both performed and recorded by the Münchner Philharmoniker under Valery Gergiev at the International Brucknertage Festival in Sankt Florian, and on 17 October it will feature Dmitry Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony and Jörg Widmann’s Con brio orchestral concert overture. On 18 and 19 October the Münchner Philharmoniker will be accompanied by another renowned musician – the pianist Behzod Abduraimov, who made his debut with the German orchestra in 2016 at the BBC Proms concerts. He will be presenting Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1. The programme also includes Dmitry Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony (18 October) and Anton Bruckner’s Seventh Symphony (19 October).

Similar programmes are to be presented as part of the Münchner Philharmoniker and Valery Gergiev’s tour to the USA. On 25 October the musicians will be appearing at Carnegie Hall in New York with Leonidas Kavakos and on 26 October with Behzod Abduraimov. The pianist will also be taking part in the final concert of the series at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (27 October). In addition to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No 1 and Dmitry Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, the programme will feature the scherzo from Felix Mendelssohn’s music for Shakespeare’s comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
