Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre to Open Russian Seasons in Germany

On 7 January, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre open the international cultural project Russian Seasons, which will take place in Germany in 2019.

The Mariinsky Chorus, the Mariinsky Orchestra, the Mariinsky Opera, and guest artists under the baton of Valery Gergiev will appear at the Berliner Philharmonie for a soirée concert. To be performed is Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta (concert performance). Lead roles will be performed by Irina Churilova (Iolanta), Najmiddin Mavlyanov (Vaudémont), Roman Burdenko (Robert), Stanislav Trofimov (King René of Provence), and Yevgeny Nikitin (Ibn-Hakia).

After performing in Germany, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will continue their European tour with a series of concerts in Switzerland, France, and Austria.

On 9 January, the KKL Luzern (Culture and Congress Centre in Lucerne) hosts the Tchaikovsky Gala. The programme of the gala includes Iolanta (concert performance) and Symphony No. 5 by Pyotr Tchaikovsky. Lead roles will be performed by Irina Churilova (Iolanta), Najmiddin Mavlyanov (Vaudémont), Roman Burdenko (Robert), Stanislav Trofimov (King René of Provence), and Yevgeny Nikitin (Ibn-Hakia). The Mariinsky Orchestra will perform at the Victoria Hall in Geneva on 10 January. The programme includes Claude Debussy’s Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, Richard Strauss’ symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben, and excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella. The following day these works will also be performed at the Maurice Ravel Auditorium in Lyon (France).

Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre will appear in Austria three times from 12 January to 14 January. The Tchaikovsky Marathon will take place at the Wiener Konzerthaus, one of the most famous venues in the world. The Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev will perform six symphonies by Tchaikovsky. The cycle will open with Symphonies No. 1 and No. 6 on 12 January. Symphonies No. 2 and No. 5 will be performed on 13 January. The cycle will conclude with Symphonies No. 3 and No. 4.
