The Mariinsky Ballet Tour in Baden-Baden

The Mariinsky Ballet tours in Baden-Baden (Germany) from 21 December to 27 December. The performers will present classical ballets and modern choreographers’ productions for a traditional series of Christmas performances at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden.

The tour will open with a soirée of memorable one-act ballets set to Sergei Prokofiev’s music. The programme includes George Balanchine's The Prodigal Son (the only work set to Prokofiev’s music by a prominent 20th century classic), Maxim Petrov’s Russian Overture to Prokofiev's eponymous symphony piece, and Anton Pimonov’s Piano Concerto No. 2. The Mariinsky Orchestra will perform under the baton of Valery Gergiev. Maxim Petrov’s and Anton Pimonov’s works premiered in 2016, when the Mariinsky Theatre broadly celebrated 125 years since the birth of Sergei Prokofiev.

From 22 December to 25 December, the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden will host a series of performances of Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov and revised by Konstantin Sergeyev. Conductor: Alexei Repnikov. On 26 December, the matinée and soirée performances will feature ballets by modern choreographers: The Four Seasons staged by Ilya Zhivoi to Max Richter’s music (based on the music by Antonio Vivaldi) and The Cat on the Tree choreographed by Anton Pimonov to music by Nico Muhly and Teitur Lassen.

The tour will conclude with a gala concert featuring ballets by choreographers from different epochs: Michel Fokine’s Le Carnaval to Robert Schumann’s music, the third part of George Balanchine’s Jewels (Diamonds to Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s music), and Maxim Petrov’s Le Divertissement du Roi to music by Jean-Philippe Rameau.

Both famous dancers and young talents will take part in on-tour performances, including Ekaterina Kondaurova, Viktoria Tereshkina, Nadezhda Batoeva, Yekaterina Osmolkina, Maria Khoreva, Kristina Shapran, Anastasia Lukina, May Nagahisa, Yana Selina, Yekaterina Ivannikova, Timur Askerov, Xander Parish, Andrey Ermakov, Alexander Sergeev, Roman Belyakov, Yevgeny Konovalov, and Alexei Timofeev.
