Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic Embark on Asia-Pacific Region Tour

From 21 November to 2 December, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will embark on one of their major concert tours. The musicians will perform in eight cities: Seongnam and Seoul (Republic of Korea), Wuhan and Hangzhou (People's Republic of China), Fukuoka, Nagoya, Osaka, and Tokyo (Japan).

The first concerts are scheduled in the Republic of Korea. On 21 November, the German ensemble and maestro Valery Gergiev will perform at the Seongnam Arts Center. The programme includes Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1, ouverture to Bedřich Smetana’s Prodaná nevěsta, and Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3. The following day, Sergei Prokofiev’s Piano Concerto No. 3 will also be performed at the Grand Theater of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts (Seoul). Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (Titan) will be performed in the second part. Both soirée concerts will be performed with featured soloist Yekwon Sunwoo, a pianist from South Korea and a winner of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition (2017, gold medal).

The Munich Philharmonic will then appear in China: at the Qintai Concert Hall in Wuhan on 24 November, and at the Hangzhou Grand Theatre on 25 November. The jewel of both programmes is Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 performed by Yuja Wang. The first soirée concert will also see a performance of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and ouverture to Bedřich Smetana’s Prodaná nevěsta; the second soirée concert will see a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (Titan). Valery Gergiev will conduct both performances.

The final concerts will take place in Japan.
