Valery Gergiev to Give a Series of Concerts in Germany, Belgium, and Netherlands

In November, Valery Gergiev is scheduled to give a series of concerts in Europe. The maestro will appear with the Munich Philharmonic in Germany and with the Mariinsky Orchestra in Belgium and the Netherlands.

On 14 November and 15 November, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will perform at the ensemble’s home stage. On 14 November, the Great Hall of the Philharmonie im Gasteig will see a performance of Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 (Titan) and Johannes Brahms’ Piano Concerto No. 2 with featured soloist Yuja Wang. She is one of the most sought-after pianists of her generation and regularly appears on stage with the German orchestra. The second soirée will see a performance of Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 1 and Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 9.

Valery Gergiev will also perform with the Mariinsky Orchestra at the BOZAR Centre for Fine Arts in Belgium (Brussels, 18 November) and at the Main Hall of the Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam, 19 November). The programme of the two soirée performances will consist of works by Russian composers: Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 6 (Pathétique), suite from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s The Tale of Tsar Saltan, and Igor Stravinsky’s Symphony in C.

In addition to touring, Valery Gergiev will give two performances with the Mariinsky Orchestra in St Petersburg on 16 November and 17 November. On 16 November, the Mariinsky II will host the gala opening of the VII St Petersburg International Cultural Forum. On 17 November, the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre will host the Russian premiere of Sofia Gubaidulina’s Über Liebe und Hass under the baton of maestro Valery Gergiev.
