The Mariinsky label has released a new Super Audio CD (Hybrid) with the recording of Igor Stravinsky’s works performed by the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev.
Two of Igor Stravinsky’s ballets – Pétrouchka and Jeu de cartes, which is not very famous in Russia – were recorded at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre back in 2009 and 2014. The CD continues a series of CD and DVD recordings featuring music by Russian composers and released by the Mariinsky label. It is the third CD in the series featuring music by Igor Stravinsky. Previous releases include the opera-oratorio Oedipus rex with the participation of the leading soloists of the Mariinsky Theatre (Ekaterina Sememchuk, Yevgeny Nikitin, Mikhail Petrenko, and Sergei Semishkur) and the DVD with George Balanchine’s ballet Jewels (with featured soloists Irina Golub, Sofia Gumerova, and Andrian Fadeyev in Rubies set to the music by Igor Stravinsky).
