Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre to perform Alexander Borodin’s Prince Igor in Oman

From 27 September to 29 September, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre ensemble are scheduled to appear at Royal Opera House Muscat (Oman), one of the major music venues located in the Arabian Peninsula.

Alexander Borodin’s opera Prince Igor staged by Yevgeny Sokovnin (and revised by stage director Irkin Gabitov) will be performed on 27 September and 29 September. For the first soirée performance, lead roles will be played by Yevgeny Nikitin (Igor Svyatoslavich), Tatiana Pavlovskaya (Yaroslavna), Yevgeny Akimov (Vladimir Igorevich), Vladimir Vaneyev (Prince Galitsky), Mikhail Kolelishvili (Konchak), and Anna Kiknadze (Konchakovna). The second soirée performance will feature Roman Burdenko (Igor Svyatoslavich), Anna Markarova (Yaroslavna), Sergei Semishkur (Vladimir Igorevich), Alexander Morozov (Prince Galitsky), Mikhail Kolelishvili (Konchak), and Anna Kiknadze (Konchakovna) in the lead roles. On 28 September, the Mariinsky Orchestra and the Mariinsky Chorus under the baton of Valery Gergiev will appear in concert. The performance is dedicated to Igor Stravinsky and Sergei Prokofiev. The Mariinsky Theatre grandly celebrated the renowned composers in 2016 and 2017 respectively. The programme includes Feu d'artifice, The Symphony in C, and suite from The Firebird by Igor Stravinsky; the cantata Alexander Nevsky by Sergei Prokofiev (featured soloist: Anna Kiknadze).

As part of the Mariinsky Theatre on-tour performances at the Royal Opera House Muscat, an exhibition about the history of the Mariinsky Theatre since its foundation and up to the present day has been organised. The exhibits include costumes, theatre props, repertoire books, playbills, documents, and other items from the Mariinsky Theatre archives, as well as photographs and videos about the Mariinsky Theatre and its branches in Vladivostok (the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre) and Vladikavkaz (the National State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania and the State Philharmonic of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania).
