Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra’s Tour in Austria and Germany

On 9 September and 16 September, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra are scheduled to perform in Grafenegg and Essen.

On 9 September, the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev will perform twice at the 2018 Grafenegg Festival (Austria). The matinée programme (11:00) held at the Auditorium includes excerpts from such ballets as Igor Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka and Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker. The soirée concert (19:00) that will take place at the Wolkenturm (lit. “Cloud Tower”) open-air stage will see a performance of the suite from Sergei Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet and the suite from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.

On 16 September, the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev will present the programme Wagner and Mahler at the Philharmonie Essen (Germany). The concert’s programme includes Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 6 (“Tragic”) and act I from Richard Wagner’s opera Die Walküre. Featured soloists for the performance are Anja Kampe (soprano), Mikhail Vekua (tenor), and Mikhail Petrenko (bass).
