Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic Tour

In the run-up to the opening of the 2018/2019 season, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will perform at major music festivals held in Switzerland and Germany.

On 2 September and 3 September, the German ensemble will appear in concert at the Lucerne Festival im Sommer. On 2 September, the KKL Luzern (Culture and Convention Centre Lucerne) will host a performance of Anton Bruckner's Symphony No. 4 ("Romantic") and Dmitri Shostakovich’s Violin Concerto No. 1 with featured soloist Leonidas Kavakos, who is a famed Greek violinist. The following day concert’s programme will include works by Russian composers, such as Anatoly Lyadov’s The Enchanted Lake, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite Shéhérazade, and music from Igor Stravinsky’s ballet Pétrouchka.

On 7 September, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will perform at the Musikfest Berlin. The Berlin Philharmoniker will host a performance of the last works by Anton Bruckner (Symphony No. 9) and Bernd Alois Zimmermann (Ich wandte mich um und sah alles Unrecht das geschah unter der Sonne for two readers, bass and orchestra). The readers will be played by actors Michael Rotschopf and Josef Bierbichler, while the vocal part will be performed by Georg Nigl (baritone).

The 2018/2019 season at the home venue of the orchestra, the Philharmonie Gasteig, will open with a performance by Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic on 19 September.
