Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic Closing 2017/2018 season

On 12 July and 14 July, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will perform the closing concerts of the 2017/2018 season.

On 12 July, the German musicians will perform under the baton of maestro Valery Gergiev at the Philharmonie Gasteig. The ensemble will close the season with a performance of Anton Bruckner’s Symphony No. 8 at their home venue. Worth noting is that the composer’s works were also performed at the opening of the Munich Philharmonic season in September of 2017 (Symphonies No. 1, No. 3, and No. 4).

On 14 July, Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic will appear in their final concert of the 2017/2018 season. The traditional open-air concert will take place in the Odeonsplatz in Munich. The programme includes symphonic excerpts and arias from operas by Hector Berlioz, Jules Massenet, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Gaetano Donizetti, Giuseppe Verdi, Giacomo Puccini, as well the symphonic suite Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Featured soloist for the performance is the famed Peruvian opera singer Juan Diego Flórez, who is one of the most popular operatic tenors in the world with his rare voice known as the tenore di grazia.

Valery Gergiev and the Munich Philharmonic’s future joint concerts are planned for September as part of the ensemble’s Switzerland tour.
