The Mariinsky Ballet’s Top Dancers to Perform Their Best Productions From Various Years in Vladivostok

The tour of the Mariinsky Ballet will open the III International Mariinsky Far East Festival in Vladivostok, which will run from 24 July to 8 August 2018. This year’s festival participants include world-famous dancers and young talented performers, such as Ekaterina Kondaurova, Nadezhda Batoeva, Kristina Shapran, Renata Shakirova, Timur Askerov, Kimin Kim, Vladimir Shklyarov, Konstantin Zverev and many others. The playbill features ballets of different epochs, such as Don Quixote, The Four Seasons, and Cinderella, which will be performed in the Far East of Russia for the first time.

The festival will open with the performances of Ludwig Minkus’s Don Quixote, choreographed by Alexander Gorsky and based on Marius Petipa’s original production (24 July and 25 July). The classic production will gather a stellar cast at the Primorsky Stage. On 24 July, the lead roles will be performed by Kimin Kim, the Mariinsky Theatre’s principal dancer and a virtuoso Basilio, soloist Renata Shakirova (Kitri), prima ballerina Ekaterina Kondaurova (Street Dancer), and soloist Konstantin Zverev (Espada). The cast for the next day’s performance includes principal dancer Timur Askerov (Basilio), soloists Nadezhda Batoeva (Kitri), Kristina Shapran (Street Dancer), and Roman Belyakov (Espada). The performances will mark 200 years since the birth of Marius Petipa.

On 26 July and 27 July, Vladivostok will see the premiere of The Four Seasons ballet set to the music of Max Richter (based on the music by Antonio Vivaldi) and staged by Ilya Zhivoi. The two-act ballet The Four Seasons is based on a sketch—one-act ballet SeasonS—which successfully premiered at the I International Mariinsky Far East Festival in 2016. Now, two years later, the audiences will enjoy the full version of the young choreographer’s production.‘ A change of seasons is not just a change of weather outside, but a metaphor for all things on Earth,’ said Ilya Zhivoi about the production. The lead roles will be performed by prima ballerina Ekaterina Kondaurova and soloist Roman Belyakov (26 July), soloists Kristina Shapran and Konstantin Zverev (27 July).

On 28 July (19:00) and twice on 29 July (14:00 and 19:00), the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will host the premiere performances of Sergei Prokofiev’s Cinderella staged by Alexei Ratmansky, one of the most popular modern choreographers. Alexei Ratmansky’s first grand ballet, created for the Mariinsky Theatre in 2001, has been a favorite with the St Petersburg public for many years, attracting audiences with its ironic and memorable interpretation of Sergei Prokofiev’s major score. On July 28, the lead roles will be performed by Kimin Kim (Prince), principal dancer of the Mariinsky Theatre and world-renowned performer, soloist Renata Shakirova (Cinderella), and prima ballerina Ekaterina Kondaurova (Stepmother). On July 29 (14:00), the main roles will be performed by soloists Konstantin Zverev (Prince), Kristina Shapran (Cinderella), and Tatiana Tkachenko (Stepmother). The soirée performance will feature soloist Nadezhda Batoeva (Cinderella), principal dancer Vladimir Shklyarov (Prince), and prima ballerina Ekaterina Kondaurova (Stepmother). The accompagnement will be provided by the Mariinsky Orchestra.

Just a quick reminder: the International Mariinsky Far East Festival in Vladivostok is an annual festival which travels to major venues in the Far East and the Asia-Pacific Region. This year’s festival will run from 24 July to 8 August.
