Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Theatre to Perform in the KSA for the First Time Ever

The Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev is to be the first Russian orchestra to appear in concert in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The concerts are set to take place on 16 June and 17 June at the most modern venue in the country, the Great Hall of the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Dhahran. The first performance of the Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Valery Gergiev. The 17 June performance will be conducted by Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici, who will also perform as soloist.

The vast programme includes Sergei Prokofiev’s Symphony No. 1, Gabriel Fauré’s Pavane, arias from Giuseppe Verdi’s Rigoletto, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, and Giacomo Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi, excerpts from Gustav Mahler’s Symphony No. 5, Joseph Haydn's Trumpet Concerto, Camille Saint-Saëns’ suite Le Carnaval des animaux, Antonio Vivaldi’s Le quattro stagioni, and Edvard Grieg’s Holberg Suite. Soloists: Lorenz Nasturica-Herschcowici (violin), Oleg Sendetsky (cello), Timur Martynov (trumpet), Aigul Khismatullina (soprano), and Yevgeny Akhmedov (tenor).
