On 31 May (8.30 pm), Valery Gergiev and Anna Netrebko (soprano) are scheduled to perform with the Wiener Philharmoniker at a traditional, free-to-all, open-air Summer Night Concert, held at the Schönbrunn Palace park (Vienna). This year's concert programme entitled An Italian Night includes selected works of Italian and Russian composers. To be performed are symphonic excerpts and arias from the operas by Giuseppe Verdi, Gioacchino Rossini, Pietro Mascagni, Giacomo Puccini, Francesco Cilea, Ruggero Leoncavallo, as well as excerpts from the ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Sergei Prokofiev. The concert will be broadcast live by ORF, while its video recording will be shown in more than 70 countries around the globe. Valery Gergiev has taken part in the open concerts of the Wiener Philharmoniker as a guest conductor twice, in 2007 and 2011.
