Guest Ensembles from Russia and Denmark to Perform at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre

Guest ensembles from Russia and Denmark, namely the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra, the Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra, and Esbjerg Ensemble will perform at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre on 13 April, 14 April, and 15 April.

On 13 April (7 pm), as part of the Trans-Siberian Art Festival, the Novosibirsk Academic Symphony Orchestra will perform at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre under the baton of its artistic director and conductor Thomas Sanderling. The programme includes introduction from Richard Wagner’s opera Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg, Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2, and Robert Schumann’s Cello Concerto. Alexander Buzlov, a prize-winner of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, will be the featured soloist for the performance.
The Novosibirsk Orchestra was founded in 1956 by Arnold Katz, who graduated from the Leningrad Conservatoire and was a student of the legendary conductor and teacher Ilya Musin. Over the years, the ensemble has successfully toured Europe and Asia, has released a number of CDs and has won multiple awards.

On 14 April (4 pm), one of the oldest professional ensembles in Denmark – Esbjerg Ensemble will perform at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The ensemble will make their debut at the Mariinsky Theatre to mark their anniversary season. The programme includes the introduction to Richard Strauss’ opera Capriccio, Johannes Brahms’ Serenade No. 1, works by the Danish composers Carl Nielsen and Bent Sørensen as well as Six Children’s Songs of Witold Lutosławski featuring the Boys’ Chorus of the Glinka Choral School. Esbjerg Ensemble was founded in 1967 on the initiative of the Danish Ministry of Culture and the local music community. It consists of 10 musicians: a wind quintet, a string quartet, and percussion. Guest musicians are added to the line-up when piano and double bass are required for the performance. The ensemble gives around 80 concerts per year and also performs at schools, takes part in opera productions, and holds master-classes. Esbjerg Ensemble has released a succession of more than 20 CD recordings featuring the music of Ludwig van Beethoven, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Carl Nielsen, Gabriel Fauré, Dmitri Shostakovich and contemporary Danish composers.

On April 15 (7 pm), the Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra, which is one of the youngest symphony ensembles in Russia, will perform a programme of Alfred Schnittke's (Cello Concerto No. 1) and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s (Symphonic Dances) works at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre. The featured soloist for the cello concerto is Alexander Knyazev, a renowned instrumentalist and soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic. The Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra will be conducted by its artistic director Evgeny Shestakov. The Tyumen Philharmonic Orchestra consists of graduates of the leading music educational institutions, prize-winners of the All-Russian and international competitions from Moscow, St Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Krasnoyarsk, Yekaterinburg and other cities and towns of Russia, as well as from Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and Canada. The orchestra’s first concert took place on 20 November 2015 as part of the Denis Matsuev Music Festival in Tyumen. The pianist himself performed with the orchestra. The ensemble has participated in such festivals as Crescendo, Stars on Baikal, Alyabyev Autumn, the All-Russian Summer in the Tobolsk Kremlin Festival and concerts dedicated to the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. April 2017 saw the orchestra’s performance with Vadim Repin at the Trans-Siberian Art Festival; June 2017 saw the orchestra’s concert at the Grand Hall of the Moscow State Conservatory. This season the orchestra takes part in the The Masterpieces of Russian Symphony Music. Russian Orchestras subscription of the Moscow State Philharmonic.
