Mariinsky Theatre to Host Virtuosi of the Flute Festival from 8 March to 12 March

From 8 to 12 March, the Mariinsky Theatre will host the Virtuosi of the Flute festival for the second time. The Concert Hall and chamber venues of the Mariinsky II will see the performances of flute music from various eras and styles, ranging from the Baroque to contemporary opuses.

The festival will feature the participation of the Mariinsky Orchestra musicians, the Symphony Orchestra of the St Petersburg Philharmonic and orchestras from Moscow. Festival guests include soloists of Berlin Philharmonic Emmanuel Pahud and Egor Egorkin, who will perform recital programmes and conduct master-classes for the students of musical colleges and musical universities of Russia (9 March at 12.00, 11 March at 17.00 and 12 March at 11.00 at the Prokofiev Hall).

The Virtuosi of the Flute festival will open on 8 March at the Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre (20.00) with the participation of flutists Olga Viland, Sofia Viland, Egor Egorkin, Sergei Zhuravel, Xenia Kuelyar, Denis Lupachev, Alexander Marinesku, Nikolai Mokhov, Nikolai Popov, Maxim Rubtzov, Irina Stachinskaya, Dmitry Terentiev, Olesya Tertychnaya, Diana Cherezova, Aglaya Shuplyakova; violinists Khristian Artamonov, Khristina Minosian, Svetlana Petrova, Andrei Pokatov; violists Dinara Muratova and Yevgeny Barsov; pianists Eduard Kiprsky and Maksim Pankov; as well as Viktor Kustov (cello), Elena Serova (harpsichord), Denis Kashin (double bass) and Vladimir Maslov (percussion). The Mariinsky Orchestra will perform under the baton of Ivan Stolbov. The performance will feature Antonio Vivaldi’s, Vladimir Tsybin’s, Marina Manafova’s, Zhanna Metallidi’s, Pablo de Sarasate’s, Alberto Ginastera’s and Claude Bolling’s works. On 10 March, Sofia Viland, Alexander Marinesku and the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Christian Knapp will present their Mozart mono programme (Concert Hall, 20.00). On 11 March (12.00), the Mariinsky Theatre Flute Ensemble will perform at the Concert Hall. They are set to perform the works of Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Antonio Vivaldi, Arcangelo Corelli, Isaac Albéniz, Gary Schocker and Leonard Bernstein.

The festival’s chamber programmes will be presented at the Prokofiev Hall (Mariinsky II). The 9 March concert (19.00) will be dedicated to Johann Sebastian Bach and his sons’ music, the 10 March concert (16.00) will be dedicated to the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Doppler, Joachim Andersen, Gary Schocker and Astor Piazzolla (for flute duet).

The gala closing of the Virtuosi of the Flute festival will take place on 12 March with the participation of flutists Emmanuel Pahud, Egor Egorkin, Nikolai Mokhov, Denis Lupachev, Maria Fedorova, Sofia Viland, as well as Elena Serova (harpsichord). The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Ivan Stolbov (Concert Hall of the Mariinsky Theatre, 19.00).
