A tour by Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker in Europe

From 20 to 27 January Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker will be appearing at concert halls in Munich, Paris, Cologne, Amsterdam and Hamburg. The musicians will perform works by Pyotr Tchaikovsky, Richard Wagner, Johannes Brahms and Richard Strauss.

The concert series opens with two evenings at the Gasteig Philharmonie (20 and 21 January). On 20 January the Münchner Philharmoniker under Valery Gergiev will perform Pyotr Tchaikovsky's fantasia Francesca da Rimini, Richard Wagner's Fünf Lieder nach Gedichten von Mathilde Wesendonck and Johannes Brahms' Third Symphony. The next day, Richard Wagner's Fünf Lieder nach Gedichten von Mathilde Wesendonck and Pyotr Tchaikovsky's fantasia Francesca da Rimini will feature together with Richard Strauss' symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben. A similar programme will be presented at the Philharmonie de Paris (22 January) and Cologne's Philharmonie (23 January). On all four evenings the solo will be performed by German opera singer and Kammersängerin of the Bayerische Staatsoper Anja Harteros (soprano).

From 24 to 27 January the Münchner Philharmoniker will continue to perform under the baton of maestro Gergiev at concert halls in Amsterdam (Concertgebouw), Munich (Gasteig Philharmonie) and Hamburg (Elbphilharmonie). The concert programmes include Johannes Brahms' Third Symphony and Richard Strauss' symphonic poem Ein Heldenleben.

The next performances by Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker are due to take place in February, when Munich will host Valery Gergiev's festival MPHIL 360° for the third time. This year, the music forum is to be dedicated to Igor Stravinsky (22 – 25 February).
