A US tour by the Mariinsky Ballet

In October the Mariinsky Ballet and Orchestra will be on tour in the USA. The performances will be held at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts (Costa Mesa) and the Kennedy Center (Washington).

From 12 to 15 October the Ballet Company will perform at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa (California). The programme includes Michel Fokine's ballets Chopiniana to music by Frédéric Chopin, Le Spectre de la rose to music by Carl Maria von Weber, The Dying Swan to music by Camille Saint-Saëns and Schéhérazade to music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. The tour performances will feature the company's leading dancers, among them Ekaterina Kondaurova, Oxana Skorik, Viktoria Tereshkina, Anastasia Kolegova, Yekaterina Osmolkina, Timur Askerov, Kimin Kim, Xander Parish, Vladimir Shklyarov, Filipp Stepin and Vasily Tkachenko. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Gavriel Heine.

From 17 to 22 October, as part of the St Petersburg dancers' annual visit to the American capital, the Ballet Company will be appearing at the renowned Kennedy Center in Washington. The programme for the tour includes seven performances of the ballet La Bayadère, marking two centuries since the birth of Marius Petipa. Most recently, the Mariinsky Theatre performed this ballet in Washington in 2008 to packed auditoriums of delighted audiences who, according to Kennedy Center representatives, have eagerly awaited the return of the St Petersburg dancers with this productin specifically. This year audiences will see La Bayadère performed by Viktoria Tereshkina, Kimin Kim and Anastasia Matvienko (17, 20 and 22 October), Oxana Skorik, Andrei Yermakov and Anastasia Kolegova (evening performance on 18 and matinee on 21 October) and Ekaterina Kondaurova, Timur Askerov and Nadezhda Batoeva (19 and 21 October). The Mariinsky Ballet will be performing to the accompaniment of the Kennedy Center's Opera Orchestra under Gavriel Heine.

Subsequently, the extensive tour, which will visit thirteen cities in the USA and Canada, the Mariinsky Orchestra will set out under Valery Gergiev. The ensemble's concerts are to be held in New York, Washington, Los Angeles, Palo Alto, Costa Mesa, Davis, Rohnert Park, Berkeley, Kansas City, Urbana and Chicago as well as Toronto and Montreal.
