From 1 to 23 October, with the support of the Russian Ministry of Culture and the Government of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, one of the branches of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladikavkaz – the National State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania – will host the XII International Arts Festival Visiting Larisa Gergieva. This established platform, featuring various artistic genres, will see the participation of outstanding instrumentalists, stars of opera and famed music ensembles.
On 1 October the festival opened with the gala concert Operamania featuring soloists of the Mariinsky Opera and the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers: People's Artist of the Republic of Bashkortostan Askar Abdrazakov (bass), People's Artists of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania Anna Kiknadze (mezzo-soprano) and Mikhail Kolelishvili (bass), prize-winner at international competitions Nadezhda Serdyuk (mezzo-soprano), recipient of the Grand Prix at the Х International Rimsky-Korsakov Competition of Young Opera Singers Diana Kazarian (soprano) and winner of the VIII International Elena Obraztsova Young Opera Singers' Competition Grigory Chernetsov (baritone). Participants also include the Chinese vocalist Suii Minhyun (soprano), who was a prize-winner at the IV International Lisitsian Young Vocalists' Competition (Vladikavkaz, 2016). The programme for the evening included popular arias and scenes from Russian and European classical operas.
From 3 to 8 October the V International Lisitsian Young Vocalists' Competition will run as part of the festival (with competition auditions in two categories: "Opera Music" and "Chamber Music"). On 8 October there will be a grand closing ceremony and a gala evening with the competition's prize-winners.
The programme of events for the first week of the festival will include vocal master-classes and an artistic workshop entitled The Italian Operatic Style with Daria Mitrofanova (St Petersburg). On 3 October at the National State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania a photo exhibition dedicated to the legendary opera singer Elena Obraztsova will open.
Visitors to the XII International Arts Festival Visiting Larisa Gergieva can also expect a cavalcade of acclaimed musicians. On 6 October as part of the festival there will be appearances by the Dutch virtuoso pianists, brothers Arthur and Lucas Jussen. On 11 October eight-times prize-winner at international competitions Filipp Kopachevsky (Moscow) will be appearing, while 12 October will see a performance by the dazzling British pianist Christian Blackshaw, whose appearances invariably rouse great public interest. The unusual programme Silent Film. Live Music. Jazz Improvisations will be performed by the virtuoso classical and jazz pianist Stanislav Chigadaev (9 October). Appearing on 14 October in a duet with pianist Anna Odintsova will be Alexander Ramm (cello), a soloist at the St Petersburg House of Music and prize-winner at numerous international competitions, among them the Paulo Cello Competition (Helsinki) and the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition. Making his debut at the festival is the talented young Israeli pianist Daniel Golod (15 October).
Ensembles appearing at the festival include the State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia under Alexei Utkin (10 October) and one of the most dazzling and original artistic ensembles in the country – the State Academic Lyudmila Zykina Russian Folk Orchestra, which will be performing at the festival for the first time (16 October).
18-19 October will see Days of Boris Galati, dedicated to the work of the first Ossetian professional composer, conductor and music historian. Festival guests will be able to attend a round table, photo exhibition and the concerts Boris Galati and His Era and Boris Galati and His Students.
On 20 October soloists of the Mariinsky Opera and the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers will perform Pyotr Tchaikovsky's opera Iolanta. The lead roles will be performed by Angelika Minasova, Pavel Shmulevich, Yaroslav Petryanik and Dmitry Voropaev and soloist of the Prague National Opera Filip Bandžak. Timur Zangiev will be conducting.
Also on 20 October, the National State Opera and Ballet Theatre of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania will open the photo exhibition The Romanov Dynasty in Historic Photographs by Karl Bulla.
The festival concludes on 23 October with a concert by one of the leading contemporary saxophonists, recipient of the Golden Saxophone prize Federico Mondelci. Together with one of the most unique and innovative accordionists of the international music scene Simone Mancini (Italy), he will present the programme An Evening of Light Music.
