Live Auditions Results for the Atkins Program Are In

The expert panel for the Atkins Young Artists Program (an international Mariinsky Theatre-based educational project) has announced the names of the six artists selected for its 2017-2018 Fellowship Program. The fellows were chosen from 114 applicants representing 13 countries on a competitive basis.

The Program's new fellows are as follows:
Angelina Akhmedova, soprano (Tashkent, Uzbekistan), is a graduate of the State Conservatory of the Republic of Uzbekistan and a soloist with the Alisher Navoi State Academic Grand Theatre;

Vladislav Kupriyanov, baritone (Samara, Russia), is a graduate of the Perm State University of Arts and Culture and a soloist with the Samara Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre;

Anna Muradyan, soprano (Saint Petersburg, Russia), is a graduate of the Gnessin State Musical School (College) and a student of the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory;

Ekaterina Sannikova, soprano (Saint Petersburg, Russia), is a graduate of the M. P. Mussorgsky Tver Musical College and a student of the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory;

Aigul Khismatullina, soprano (Vladivostok, Russia), is a graduate of the N. G. Zhiganov Kazan State Conservatory and a soloist of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre;

Anastasia Shchegoleva, soprano (Moscow, Russia), is a graduate of the Maimonides State Classical Academy.

Live auditions for the Atkins Young Artists Program fellowship candidates took place at the Mariinsky Theatre from June 24 to June 26. The expert panel included Valery Gergiev, Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre, Veronica Atkins, Founder of the Atkins Young Artists Program, and Sarah Billinghurst Solomon, opera house administrator, artist manager and former Assistant General Manager for Artistic Affairs at the Metropolitan Opera. The final auditions were attended by the members of the Atkins Young Artists Program Artistic Advisory Board (Eva Wagner-Pasquier, opera manager and consultant of the Bayreuth Festival; Diane Zola, Director of Artistic Administration at Houston Grand Opera), as well as by the leading vocal trainers and coaches (Olga Kondina, People's Artist of Russia, a soloist with the Mariinsky Opera; Peter McClintock, opera director at the Metropolitan Opera; Craig Rutenberg, pianist, concertmaster, trainer, and répétiteur, former Director of Music Administration at the Metropolitan Opera).

The Atkins Young Artists Program is an international educational project, established in 2015 under the patronage of Valery Gergiev. The program's goal is to support young opera singers at the start of their professional career. The program fellows will have a unique opportunity to perfect their vocal and performing skills under the direction of eminent teachers and concertmasters, to study abroad, to give solo concerts in Russia and beyond, to work with theatre administrators, managers, PR agencies, to collaborate with the leading opera companies, and to take part in the Mariinsky Theatre productions.
