Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra to tour Europe

Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra are giving several concerts in Europe in the run-up to the Stars of the White Nights Festival.
On 18 May, Maestro and his orchestra are expected at the Grand Auditorium of the Philharmonie Luxembourg, for a concert featuring Sergei Prokofiev’s works: fragments of Cinderella suite, Third and Sixth symphonies.

On 19 May, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will appear at the Dresden Palace of Culture (Germany), playing Shostakovich’s 5th Symphony, and fragments of Parsifal and Götterdämmerung by Richard Wagner. The Mariinsky musicians will be joined by the Dutch soprano Eva-Maria Westbroek.

22 May will bring Valery Gergiev and his orchestra to Sofia (Bulgaria), for the grand opening of the Sofia Music Weeks International Festival. This concert at Bulgaria concert hall will feature the Firebird Suite by Igor Stravinsky, Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune by Claude Debussy, the 5th Symphony by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and the 1st ‘Classic’ Symphony by Sergei Prokofiev.

Incidentally, Valery Gergiev was awarded with the Golden Age, highest award of the Bulgarian Ministry of Culture, in 2016, for his contribution to the development of the Bulgarian culture. Over the recent years, Bulgarian vocal ensembles have regularly taken part in the Moscow Easter Festival choral programme.
