On 18 January at the Prokofiev Hall (Mariinsky-II) soloists of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers directed by Larisa Gergieva will present the premiere of Leonid Klinichev's one-act opera Zinaida, which is dedicated to Zinaida Gippius. This work concludes the composer's triptych about great Russian poets. Stage director Alexei Stepanyuk has been working on the production.
The lead roles in the premiere performance will be performed by Gelena Gaskarova (Zinaida Gippius), Ilya Selivanov (Dmitry Merezhkovsky) and Grigory Chernetsov (Dmitry Filosofov). Piano – Vasily Popov.
"The idea of depicting great Russian women in opera arose thanks to Larisa Gergieva, Director of the Mariinsky Academy of Young Opera Singers. Thus appeared the mono-operas Anna and Marina, which are dedicated to Anna Akhmatova and Marina Tsvetaeva, and the one-act opera Zinaida, which is dedicated to Zinaida Gippius, an incredible poetess, a trend-setter and an amazing and unique woman," Leonid Klinichev commented.
