Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker to appear in Munich and Dortmund

The first concert series of the new year by the Münchner Philharmoniker under Valery Gergiev will take place in Munich and Dortmund from 11 to 15 January.

On 11 January (Philharmonie im Gasteig, Munich) and 13 January (Konzerthaus, Dortmund) the programme will feature Claude Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune, highlights from Hector Berlioz' symphonie dramatique Roméo et Juliette and Ludwig van Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.

On 12 and 15 January at the Philharmonie im Gasteig Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker will present the world premiere of Vladimir Tarnopolsky's work Blue Sift. This new piece, commissioned by the Bavarian orchestra, is dedicated to maestro Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker. There will also be a performance of highlights from Hector Berlioz' symphonie dramatique Roméo et Juliette and Ludwig van Beethoven's Seventh Symphony.

The next joint appearances by Valery Gergiev and the Münchner Philharmoniker will run from 14 to 21 February. The series will begin with three concerts at the ensemble's home venue and continue with a European tour: on 17 February in Luxembourg (Luxembourg Philharmonie), on 19 February in Cologne (Kölner Philharmonie), on 20 February in Frankfurt am Main (Alte Oper) and on 21 February in Paris (Philharmonie de Paris). The programme includes Sergei Rachmaninoff's Second and Third Piano Concerti (soloist – Daniil Trifonov), Claude Debussy's Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune and Gustav Mahler's First Symphony (Titan).
