On 29 December the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be appearing in Moscow

The traditional pre-New Year concert by the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will take place at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall on 29 December (20:00). The programme will be announced later. The concert will be the culmination of a major tour by the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev throughout Russia's regions in 2016.

On the eve of the tour of the anniversary XV Moscow Easter Festival, Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra appeared from 6 to 11 April in Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Vladivostok, Kemerovo and Moscow. One remarkable event of the Moscow concert was the first performance in Russia by the United Orchestra of the Münchner Philharmoniker and the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev at the Great Hall of the Moscow Conservatoire.

On 23 April – Sergei Sergeyevich Prokofiev's birthday – the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev opened the Prokofiev Marathon with a concert in Moscow, which continued in St Petersburg.

Later, as part of the anniversary XV Moscow Easter Festival, which ran from 1 to 17 May 2016, over nineteen days the ensemble appeared in twenty Russian cities - Tula, Oryol, Kursk, Smolensk, Vladimir, Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Perm, Votkinsk, Izhevsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Krasnodar, Vladikavkaz, Astrakhan and Saransk.

From 30 July to 10 August the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev took part in the I International Mariinsky Far East Festival in Vladivostok. On the eve of the festival the orchestra performed in Yakutsk.

In late September the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev appeared in Murmansk to mark one hundred years since the foundation of the city. Subsequently the musicians departed on their next Russian tour which lasted from 3 to 7 October. The first concerts took place in Samara as part of the IX Music Festival To Mstislav Rostropovich. The orchestra then gave a series of performances in Tomsk, Novosibirsk and Khabarovsk.

On 1 and 2 November the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev appeared again at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok. Then the orchestra visited Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for the first time, while on 3 and 4 November it presented concerts in Surgut and Khanty-Mansiysk.
