On 19 November at the historic Mariinsky Theatre there will be a gala concert of the IV international festival of modern choreography Context. Diana Vishneva. This year, for the first time, the festival will take place in two cities: the main programme will take place in Moscow, and the final evening will take place in St Petersburg. At the gala concert the festival'sguest companies will present the Russian premieres of works by leading international choreographers.
The Dutch company Introdans, performing in St Petersburg for the first time, will present productions by headliners of contemporary European ballet – In Memoriam by Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui and Cantata by Mauro Bigonzetti. The National Ballet School of Canada's youth division will present Aszure Barton's Come in, created in 2006 for Mikhail Baryshnikov. The American company Alonzo King LINES Ballet has selected Double Violin Concerto to music by Johann Sebastian Bach. One key event of the evening will be the miniature AXE by Swedish choreographer Mats Ek. This will be performed by the choreographer's wife and muse Ana Laguna together with Ivan Autseli. The event is even more notable for the fact that the choreographer recently announced his retirement. The final piece in the gala concert will be a performance by Diana Vishneva in a premiere for her of Ohad Naharin's ballet B/olero, which she will dance with Aurélie Dupont, a former étoile and current Artistic Director of the Ballet of the Opéra de Paris.
The programme of the IV Context. Diana Vishneva festival, which runs in Moscow and St Petersburg from 14 to 19 November, includes performances by dance companies from The Netherlands, Switzerland, Canada and the USA, a young choreographers' competition, artistic meetings, master-classes and film screenings.
