The Mariinsky Theatre is continuing the greatest ever tour in its history of countries in the Asia-Pacific Region. From 24 October the Mariinsky Opera, Chorus and Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be joined by the Ballet Company, which will stage performances in China's major cities.
On 24 October at the Shanghai Grand Theatre there will be a performance of Sergei Prokofiev's ballet Romeo and Juliet with Diana Vishneva and Konstantin Zverev in the title roles. On the second evening (25 October) these roles will be performed by Nadezhda Batoeva and Timur Askerov. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Valery Gergiev.
On 28 and 29 October as well as on 8 and 9 November the Mariinsky Ballet and the orchestra of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under Alexei Repnikov will be appearing at the Tianjin Grand Theatre. The lead roles in Pyotr Tchaikovsky's ballet Swan Lake will be performed by Oxana Skorik and Yevgeny Ivanchenko and Anastasia Matvienko and Timur Askerov, while in Sergei Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet there will be appearances by Nadezhda Batoeva and Timur Askerov and Anastasia Kolegova and Xander Parish. Performances at the Opera House in Guanzhou will feature Renata Shakirova and Filipp Stepin and Oxana Skorik and Yevgeny Ivanchenko (Romeo and Juliet, 1 and 2 November), Anastasia Kolegova and Xander Parish, Anastasia Matvienko and Timur Askerov and Oxana Skorik and Yevgeny Ivanchenko (Swan Lake, 4, 5 and 6 November).
It should be noted that during the tour by the Mariinsky Theatre throughout the Asia-Pacific Region which began on 8 October, in cities in Japan (Tokyo, Kyoto and Nishinomiya) and China (Shanghai) there were performances of the operas Eugene Onegin and The Queen of Spades by Pyotr Tchaikovsky and Giuseppe Verdi's opera Don Carlo as well as a series of symphony music concerts. Still to come for Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra, Chorus and Opera are appearances in Harbin (China), where on 26 and 27 October there will be performances of Sergei Prokofiev's opera War and Peace (production by Andrei Konchalovsky), and in Beijing (China) on 29 October there will be a programme of works by Sergei Prokofiev and Gustav Mahler. On 30 October the Mariinsky will perform twice at the National Concert Hall of Taipei (Taiwan), while on 31 October there will be a concert at the Seongnam Arts Center in Seoul (South Korea).
