A Russian tour by the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev

On 3 and 4 October the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be appearing at the IX International Music Festival To Mstislav Rostropovich at the Samara Opera and Ballet Theatre.

On 3 October the programme for the festival To Mstislav Rostropovich includes Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin (concert performance). Together with the Mariinsky Orchestra and Chorus under Valery Gergiev there will be appearances by opera company soloists Alexei Markov (Onegin), Yekaterina Goncharova (Tatiana), Yulia Matochkina (Olga) and Yevgeny Akhmedov (Lensky). On 4 October the Mariinsky Orchestra will be appearing on a further two occasions at the Samara Opera and Ballet Theatre; at 13:00 there will be a charitable concert by the orchestra, while at 19:00 there will be a performance of highlights from the music to the ballet Carmen-Suite by Georges Bizet – Rodion Shchedrin, Maurice Ravel’s Boléro and Hector Berlioz’ symphonie dramatique Roméo et Juliette. The vocal roles will be performed by Yulia Matochkina (mezzo-soprano), Yevgeny Akhmedov (tenor) and Yuri Vorobiev (bass).

After the festival closes, the Mariinsky Orchestra, Chorus and Opera soloists will appear at the Tomsk Regional State Philharmonic (Tomsk, 5 October, 17:30 and 19:00), the State Arnold Katz Concert Hall (Novosibirsk, 6 October, 16:30 and 18:00) and the Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic (Khabarovsk, 7 October, 18:00). Then on 1 November the Mariinsky Orchestra and Opera soloists as well as the chorus of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev will present Richard Wagner's opera Das Rheingold at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok.
