Established by Valery Gergiev, Finnish conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and former director of the Berwaldhallen concert hall Michael Tyden with the aim of collaboration in solving problems of the ecology in the Baltic Sea region, this annual Swedish festival has run since 2003. In line with tradition, the days that the festival runs are filled with seminars, symposiums and exhibitions focussing on the region's ecology.

Valery Gergiev is "convinced that for future generations the fate of the Baltic Sea is of vital importance" and that "the theme of ecology has the most fundamental significance." This year the Baltic Sea Festival runs from 28 August to 4 September. For details please go to: www.sverigesradio.se
