On the eve of the anniversary XV Moscow Easter Festival, from 6 to 11 April Valery Gergiev and the Mariinsky Orchestra will be performing in Tomsk, Ulan-Ude, Vladivostok, Kemerovo and Moscow. The accent of the programme lies on the music of Sergei Prokofiev, the one hundred and twenty-fifth anniversary of whose birth is being celebrated through Valery Gergiev’s projects in Italy, Sweden, China, the USA, Chile, Mexico, France, Belgium, Great Britain, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria and Cuba.
On 6 April the musicians, together with pianist Alexei Volodin, will give two performances Tomsk at the Tomsk Regional State Philharmonic. The matinee will be a charity concert. On 7 April in Ulan-Ude the musicians will appear at the Buryatia State Academic Tsydynzhapov Opera and Ballet Theatre.
On 8 and 9 April the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will give three performances at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok. The matinee on 9 April will be a charity concert – for young residents of Vladivostok there will be a performance of the symphonic tale Peter and the Wolf. The performances in Vladivostok form part of the Primorsky Stage’s series of numerous projects and premieres commemorating the anniversary of Prokofiev.
On 10 April the musicians will perform at the Kuzbass State Shtokolov Philharmonic (Kemerovo).
On 11 April the tour will conclude with a concert by the United Orchestra of the Munich Philharmonic and the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev in Moscow, in the Great Hall of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatoire. The soloist will be pianist Alexei Volodin.
It should be noted that during the anniversary XV Moscow Easter Festival, which runs from 1 to 17 May 2016, the Mariinsky Orchestra under Valery Gergiev will be appearing in twenty-one Russian towns and cities – Tula, Oryol, Kursk, Smolensk, Vladimir, Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Magnitogorsk, Perm, Votkinsk, Izhevsk, Nizhny Novgorod, Lipetsk, Voronezh, Rostov-on-Don, Sochi, Krasnodar, Vladikavkaz, Astrakhan and Saransk.
