Eldar Aliev has been appointed Ballet Master-in-Chief of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre

Artistic and General Director of the Mariinsky Theatre Valery Gergiev has appointed a new director of the ballet company of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre. The Ballet Master-in-Chief of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky is Eldar Aliev and the Director of the ballet company is Alexander Kurkov.

Eldar Aliev graduated from the Baku School of Dance and the Choreography Department of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. From 1979-1992 he was a principal dancer at the Kirov (Mariinsky) Theatre.
From 1992 he worked with the company Ballet Internationale (USA), and subsequently became its Artistic Director. Since 2006 he has worked as a guest consultant, teacher, ballet-master and choreographer with leading ballet companies and schools in Europe, Asia and America, among them the Swedish Royal Ballet, the National Ballet of Slovakia, the National Ballet of China, the National Ballet of Canada, Cincinnati Ballet in the USA, the Universal Ballet of Korea in Seoul, the Hong Kong Ballet, the Beijing Academy of Dance, the Teatro Massimo in Italy and the Ballet Nacional de España.
Jury-member of international ballet competitions in Prague, Seoul, New York and Beijing. In 2014 he was elected Deputy Chair of the jury at the XXVI International Ballet Competition in Varna.

Alexander Kurkov is an Honoured Artist of Russia. Graduated from the Baku School of Dance. Began his dance career at the Akhundov Opera and Ballet Theatre (Baku). From 1980-1987 he was a soloist with the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theatre in Minsk. In 1984 he won the 2nd prize at the All-Union Ballet Competition. From 1987-2007 he was a principal dancer at the Kirov-Mariinsky Theatre.
In 2007 he graduated from the teaching department of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. In 2008-2009 he taught classical dance. From 2010-2016 he has been a teacher and coach and deputy Artistic Director of the ballet company of the Novosibirsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.
