The Rachmaninoff Festival, already held to great acclaim in Beijing, Rotterdam, London, St Petersburg and Samara, is being held in the Far East for the first time at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre in Vladivostok (7 and 11 February) and at the Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic (8 and 9 February). The programme of the two-day piano marathons includes all of Sergei Rachmaninoff’s piano concerti and his Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini performed by prize-winners of the Tchaikovsky International Competition and participants of the Mariinsky Theatre’s International Piano Festival.
On 7 February at the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre there will be a performance of the First and Second Piano Concerti with soloists Dmitry Masleyev (recipient of the 1st prize at the XV Tchaikovsky Competition) and Alexei Chernov (recipient of the 5th prize at the XIV Tchaikovsky Competition). The concert will also feature romances by Rachmaninoff performed by Mariinsky Opera soprano Olga Trifonova and soloists of the Primorsky Stage.
On 11 February Rachmaninoff’s First and Third Piano Concerti and Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini will be performed by Ilya Rashkovskiy, the recipient of the Special Prize at the XV Tchaikovsky Competition, Pavel Raikerus – a “find” at St Petersburg’s International Piano Festival – and Filipp Kopachevsky, already familiar to Primorsk audiences through the Tchaikovsky Marathon project. The Symphony Orchestra of the Primorsky Stage of the Mariinsky Theatre will be conducted by Pavel Smelkov.
On 8 and 9 February, the pianists will perform the same programme at the Khabarovsk Regional Philharmonic. The Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Far East will be conducted by Tigran Akhnazarian.
