From 27 to 29 January the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev will give three performances at the Rudolfinum, one of Prague’s oldest concert halls.
The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, which celebrates its one hundred and twentieth anniversary this year, is among the world’s twenty best orchestras. Maestro Gergiev first appeared with the ensemble in June 2014 in Prague and Ravenna. The press awarded lofty praise to these concerts: “The team-work between the conductor and the Czech Philharmonic reaches an apogee from the very start – in the Suite from Swan Lake. Gergiev created timeless music which displays Tchaikovsky’s brilliance and the possibilities of the free art that the performers possess.” (Hospodářské noviny)
“The Czech Philharmonic Orchestra sounded more like a Russian ensemble rather than a Czech one, with seething energy, passion, drama and even a flavour of national pride. Maestro Gergiev’s understanding of the orchestra and his ability to give the ensemble a particular sound is unrivalled.” (Bachtrack)
In two years’ time Valery Gergiev will return once more to Prague to perform Ludwig van Beethoven’s Violin Concerto and Igor Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps for Czech audiences. The solo will be performed by renowned Czech violinist Josef Špaček.
