On 21 and 22 January Valery Gergiev will conduct the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra at the Great Hall of the De Doelen music complex, while on 23 January the orchestra will be appearing at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. The programme of the concerts includes Jean Sibelius’ symphonic poem En saga, the suite from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Golden Cockerel and Igor Stravinsky’s Pétrouchka.
Maestro Gergiev has collaborated with the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra for many years – from 1995 to 2008 he was the ensemble’s director, and in 1996 together with the orchestra he founded the Gergiev Festival in Rotterdam. Today Valery Gergiev is an honorary conductor of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra.
