On 29 December the Mariinsky Orchestra under the baton of Valery Gergiev will be performing at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall. The concert begins at 20:00.
The concert programme includes the Scherzo from music by Mendelssohn for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, the Suite from Prokofiev’s music for the ballet Cinderella, music from Tchaikovsky’s ballet The Nutcracker, Tchaikovsky’s Scherzo-Waltz for Violin and Orchestra and Saint-Saëns’ Introduction et rondo capriccioso for violin and orchestra.
The soloist will be fourteen-year-old Swede Daniel Lozakovitj. The concert will mark the end of the Mariinsky Orchestra and Valery Gergiev’s major tours throughout Russia in the course of 2015.
In April and May during the XIV Moscow Easter Festival the musicians appeared in Smolensk, Vladimir, Rybinsk, Yaroslavl, Nizhny Novgorod, Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s hometown of Votkinsk, Izhevsk, Perm, Yekaterinburg, Tyumen, Omsk, Tomsk, Kemerovo, Barnaul, Magnitogorsk, Orienburg, Penza, Samara, Kazan, Ulyanovsk, Volgograd, Voronezh, Belgorod, Kursk, Klin and, on several occasions, in Moscow. In September they were in Vladivostok and Irkutsk and in November they were back in Moscow. In early December the Mariinsky Chorus, Orchestra and soloists under the baton of Valery Gergiev performed Tchaikovsky’s opera The Queen of Spades at the Primorsky Opera and Ballet Theatre in Vladivostok. There were then performances in Khanty-Mansiysk and Samara as part of the VIII International festival To Mstislav Rostropovich.
