Maestro Gergiev will continue to introduce world audiences to prize-winners of the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition. This time the young performers will be heard at some of the world’s most prestigious concert venues – Carnegie Hall in New York, Cadogan Hall in London and Symphony Hall in Birmingham. In recent months the Tchaikovsky Competition prize-winners have already toured with Valery Gergiev to Finland, Sweden, Japan and Austria.
On 24 October in the USA there will be a performance by Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar (Mongolia, recipient of the competition’s Grand Prix and 1st prize in the category “solo singing”), singer Yulia Matochkina (Russia, recipient of the 1st prize and Gold Medal), pianist Dmitry Masleyev (Russia, recipient of the 1st prize) and cellist Andrei Ionuț Ioniță (Romania, recipient of the 1st prize). The concert mistress will be Valeria Polunina.
The same performers will appear in a concert in London on 26 October. The programme for the evening includes Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Haydn’s First Cello Concerto, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 2, the Introduction from Wagner’s opera Lohengrin and arias from operas by Tchaikovsky. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by Valery Gergiev.
On 28 October in Birmingham there will be a performance by Ariunbaatar Ganbaatar, Yulia Matochkina, pianist George Li (USA, recipient of the 2nd prize), cellist Alexander Ramm (Russia, recipient of the 2nd prize), pianist Lucas Debargue (France, recipient of the 4th prize) and violinist Clara-Jumi Kang (Germany, recipient of the 4th prize. The Mariinsky Orchestra will be conducted by maestro Gergiev. The playbill for the concert features the overture from Verdi’s opera La forza del destino, Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune, Tchaikovsky’s First Piano Concerto, Variations on a Rococo Theme and opera arias, Liszt’s First Piano Concerto and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto.
