The performances by the British Orchestra under maestro Gergiev open with concerts on 9 and 11 October at the Barbican Hall in London. These two events are united by the title Valery Gergiev: Man of the Theatre, in as much as the accent of the concert programmes focusses on music for theatre. The playbill for the first concert includes Bartók’s Dance Suite and Second Piano Concerto as well as Stravinsky’s The Firebird.
The next concert will see performances of Bartók’s Third Piano Concerto and Symphony in C and Stravinsky’s Le Sacre du printemps.
Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra will then repeat these programmes at the Konzerthaus in Vienna on 12 and 13 October, as well as at the Grand Auditorium of the Philharmonie Luxembourg on 14 October. On all five evenings the soloist will be the internationally acclaimed pianist Yefim Bronfman.
On 16 and 17 October there will be performances at the new Philharmonie de Paris. The playbill for the Paris concerts will comprise such orchestral masterpieces as Stravinsky’s Symphony in C, the symphonic poem The Song of the Nightingale, The Firebird and Le Sacre du printemps and Bartók’s Dance Suite and The Miraculous Mandarin.
The European leg of the tour will conclude with an appearance at the Barbican Hall in London on 18 October, the programme including Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra and The Miraculous Mandarin as well as Stravinsky’s The Song of the Nightingale.
Valery Gergiev and the London Symphony Orchestra’s American tour will take place in New York and Newark from 23 to 25 October. The musicians will be appearing at the Lincoln Center and the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Yefim Bronfman will be appearing as the soloist on all three evenings.
