Alexei Popov has won the first prize and gold medal at the V International Yuri Grigorovich Competition Young Ballet of the World which has come to a close in Sochi.
This professional competition takes place in Sochi every two years. This year’s competition – the fifth to date – involved fifty competitors representing ballet schools from twelve countries. In line with the competition’s regulations, participants present the jury with both classical variations and pieces to jazz music and highlights from contemporary ballets or works staged especially for the competition. The competent jury is invariably chaired by Yuri Nikolaevich Grigorovich, People’s Artist of the USSR.
