The Teatral society honours the Mariinsky

St Petersburg’s audience society Teatral has honoured the Mariinsky Theatre’s most important opera premieres.

In February the St Petersburg audience society Teatral summed up the results of viewings and discussions of last year’s premiere productions. The Mariinsky Theatre was among the winners and recipients of the Teatral prize for 2013: its new productions, as well as the soloists engaged in them, received lofty praise.
The production of the opera The Lefthander, written by composer Rodion Shchedrin specially for the new Mariinsky Theatre and dedicated to Valery Gergiev, was acclaimed as “best production” (Stage Director: Alexei Stepanyuk; Production Designer: Alexander Orlov). Performers who received the society’s award included soprano Tatiana Serjan and baritone Vladislav Sulimsky for their work in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Il trovatore (Stage Director: Pier Luigi Pizzi; Conductor – Valery Gergiev). Tatiana Serjan won for the role of Leonora and Vladislav Sulimsky for the role of the Conte di Luna.
