Debuts in the opera The Snow Maiden

On 25 February soprano Gelena Gaskarova will be making her debut as Kupava, while baritone Alexander Krasnov will be appearing for the first time as Mizgir in Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s opera The Snow Maiden at the Mariinsky II.

Gelena Gaskarova performs numerous lead roles in the soprano repertoire, though in addition to her magnificent voice the singer has remarkable acting skills. The press invariably comments favourably on her “beautifully lyric and warm soprano, a marvellous combination of softness and resonance.” Gelena Gaskarova was the first performer of the role of Eliza Doolittle in the Mariinsky Theatre’s production of Frederick Loewe’s musical My Fair Lady after the play Pygmalion by George Bernard Shaw. The first musical in the history of the Mariinsky Theatre, it was staged by Canadian director Robert Carsen.

Baritone Alexander Krasnov is a lead soloist at the Yekaterinburg State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. Today he makes his debut in the Mariinsky Theatre’s production of the opera The Snow Maiden.
