A debut in the opera Le nozze di Figaro

On 22 January soprano Eleonora Vindau will be performing the role of Countess Rosina in Mozart’s opera Le nozze di Figaro for the first time on the historic stage of the Mariinsky Theatre (production by Yuri Alexandrov).

“Stage director Yuri Alexandov and designer Vyacheslav Okunev’s production stands apart for its scrupulous attention to detail and refined sense of style as well as for following the spirit of Mozart’s masterpiece. The sets and the costumes correspond with the 18th century in which the action unfolds, while the onstage depictions of the characters have been planned to the tiniest details. And that’s a great rarity in the current climate of the despotism of so-called ‘directors’ opera’, the worst examples of which typify a false understanding of the very nature of opera and a perversion of the composer’s intentions” (Belcanto.ru).

A graduate of the National Academy of Music of Ukraine, soprano Eleonora Vindau made her debut at the Mariinsky Theatre in 2007 and has since appeared in operas and chamber music programmes to great acclaim. The role of Countess Rosina who is insulted by her husband’s infidelity will add to the soloist’s Mozartian repertoire which already includes Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte) and Despina (Così fan tutte), while in Le nozze di Figaro she has already appeared onstage as the crafty beauty Susanna, Figaro’s bride. Critics invariably lavish praise on the talented young singer’s “miraculous soprano voice”.
