A debut in the opera Iolanta

On 14 December tenor Yevgeny Akimov will perform the role of Vaudémont in Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s opera Iolanta for the first time (production by Mariusz Treliński).

Iolanta was Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s final opera. One of his most uplifting works, it embodies life-affirming faith in the victory of divine intervention and the spiritual strengths of anyone who strives for goodness.
Honoured Artist of Russia Yevgeny Akimov is a coryphée of the Mariinsky Opera, and has dazzlingly performed lead roles from the tenor repertoire at the Mariinsky Theatre as well as at other renowned venues across the globe. A several-times recipient of Russia’s Golden Mask and other prestigious theatre prizes, the soloist was the first performer of the tenor role in the world premiere of the concert version of Rodion Shchedrin’s opera The Enchanted Wanderer under the baton of Lorin Maazel. In Iolanta the singer will be performing the role of Count Vaudémont, whose love is the basis of Iolanta’s belief that she can be cured.
