The ballet company has begun rehearsals for Frederick Ashton’s ballet Sylvia, the premiere of which will open the Mariinsky ballet festival on 3 April. Working with the dancers during stage one of rehearsals of the three-act ballet is Anna Trevien, a dance notation specialist from the Royal Ballet in London. Later the rehearsal process will continue under the supervision of Susan Jones, ballet-mistress and coach with American Ballet Theatre. This full-evening story ballet to music by Léo Delibes will involve a large number of Mariinsky Ballet dancers. Casting is also currently underway for the company’s production of Wayne McGregor’s ballet Infra. While attending company classes and rehearsals the choreographer will select dancers for his ballet. Infra is a one-act ballet, created in 2008 for the Royal Ballet in London. The St Petersburg premiere will take place on 24 February 2014. |
