Mariinsky II – leading the way among St Petersburg’s theatres

The Mariinsky II has come first in the architectural accessibility rating for disabled people among St Petersburg’s theatres.

The rating of architectural accessibility to St Petersburg’s theatres was compiled by Social Navigator following research conducted by RIA Novosti between May and October 2013. The expert commission visited forty-two of St Petersburg’s most frequented theatres. The Mariinsky II garnered 65.9% of the vote as having an ideal level of adaptation and was classified as “Good” along with the Bolshoi Puppet Theatre, which took second place with 60.3% of the vote.
During the research process, theatres were judged according to several criteria including “Transport Accessibility”, “Entrances/Exits”, “How to Find Your Seats”, “Service” and “Auditorium”. For greater objectivity, the experts attended performances for assessment purposes incognito as regular theatre-goers.
