Ildar Abdrazakov and Anna Markarova in Giuseppe Verdi’s opera Attila |
The recording of the opera was produced at the Mariinsky Theatre in July 2010. The cast includes Ildar Abdrazakov (Attila), Anna Markarova (Odabella), Vladislav Sulimsky (Ezio) and Sergei Skorokhodov (Foresto). The conductor is Valery Gergiev. International press comments about the recording: He (Ildar Abdrazakov) is thrilling throughout the set, worthy of comparison with the very finest basses who have taken this role on record before him (...) The technical side of things is also very good, with excellent picture quality and good surround sound that displays the sweep of the drama while allowing individual voices to come to just the right levels of prominence at the right times.
Anna Markarova is vocally and dramatically fearless as Odabella, launching herself confidently at the demanding writing with which Verdi characterises this warrior maiden (...) Valery Gergiev marshals his Mariinsky forces with vigour.
As with other releases on the label, the DVD of Attila is available for purchase at the music shops at the Mariinsky Theatre, Concert Hall and Mariinsky II. For details on Mariinsky label recordings, please go to: www.mariinskylabel.com
