On 1 August Yekaterina Goncharova will be performing the role of Mimì in Giacomo Puccini’s opera La bohème for the first time (production by Ian Judge). | |||||

The opera’s premiere – conducted by Arturo Toscanini in Turin – added to Puccini’s glory following the triumph of his Manon. One of the most significant classical operas ever written, La bohème is also interesting for the fact that it has no overture. Soprano Yekaterina Goncharova will be appearing as one of the most touching and poignant heroines in world opera – the unfortunate Mimì who dies from consumption. Goncharova joined the Mariinsky Opera in 2012, and has since made acclaimed performances in such repertoire leading soprano roles as Maria (Mazepa), Iolanta (Iolanta), Tatiana (Eugene Onegin), Micaëla (Carmen), Natasha (War and Peace) and Marguerite in the recent premiere of Gounod’s Faust. |
