On 23 July soprano Oxana Shilova will be making her debut as Donna Anna in Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s opera Don Giovanni (production by Johannes Schaaf). | |||||

Gioachino Rossini, Charles Gounod and Richard Wagner all referred to this opera as the greatest ever written. It is true that Beethoven preferred another of Mozart’s works (Die Zauberflöte), considering the plot of Don Giovanni to be immoral. Schaaf’s production, which premiered in 1999, is a mainstay of the opera company’s repertoire. Designated by the composer as a dramma giocoso, the opera was given a radical and provocative interpretation, adored by the public and highly praised by critics.
Soprano Oxana Shilova will be performing the role of Donna Anna, Don Giovanni’s unhappy lover whose father was killed by the cunning seducer. The singer has already appeared several times at the Mariinsky Theatre as the peasant girl Zerlina, yet another victim of the Seville charmer. The role of Donna Anna is the latest addition to the list of lead soprano repertoire roles that Oxana Shilova performs at her home theatre.
