Farukh Ruzimatov’s stage career bloomed during his time at the Mariinsky Theatre. A dancer who combined the lofty technique of classical ballet with spirit, artistry, expressive plastique and emotional expressiveness, Ruzimatov was equally highly regarded in roles requiring a refined manner, in virtuoso dance where he demonstrated the power of his leaps and impetuous spins and in contemporary productions that focus on the internal intensity of movement. His legion of fans grew with every performance and the dancer earned international renown; Ruzimatov’s inner energy made him stand apart from many other performers, while he used his tremendous achievements in technique to adorn his innate charisma. It was impossible to remain indifferent towards the wondrous leaps he performed or his exotic appearance that charmed the eye.

The exhibition features photographs by Natasha Razina, Valentin Baranovsky and Yulia Larionova of the dancer in various roles from the classical and contemporary repertoire as well as some of Farukh Ruzimatov’s stage costumes.
