Yesterday, 18 June, saw the final round of the XII International Ballet Dancers’ and Choreographers’ Competition, directed by Yuri Grigorovich. Forty young performers from across the globe battled it out for the title of best dancer in two age categories. Mariinsky Theatre soloists Timur Askerov and Oxana Skorik performed a duet in the senior age category. The competition results declared Timur Askerov the winner in the dancers’ category “Duets/Men”, with Oxana Skorik taking second prize in the analogous women’s category. Ernest Latypov who performed solo took third place. Ballet magazine’s special prize for outstanding artistic achievements in training competitors went to Rejepmyrat Abdyev, a coach with the Mariinsky Ballet. The grand awards ceremony for competition prize-winners and diploma-recipients will take place on 19 June at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow. | ||||
