Larisa Diadkova is one of the Mariinsky Theatre’s greatest stars. Galina Vishnevskaya said of the singer that “I have never heard a better Marfa in my entire life.”
Today Larisa Diadkova is one of Russia’s – and the world’s – finest mezzo-sopranos. Her voice is not only able to overcome the powerful sound of the Mariinsky Orchestra under Gergiev, but also to fill such an immense space as the open-air Italian theatre at the Arena di Verona. Her deep and even voice flows freely whether in the theatre or the concert hall. All of Diadkova’s heroines have a magnetic personality and a powerful will, both of which are expressed in the colours of her beautiful and variable vocals – from the dark and “witch-like” to the light and tender or imperiously commanding.
“Larisa Diadkova’s phenomenally powerful and expressive mezzo-soprano voice is unique, sensitive and powerful. The incredibly deep majesty of her voice has the same effect as an electric charge on the auditorium.” (Izvestia)
